Mob Lynches Two Brothers in Kyotera for Killing Herdsman

The police in Kyotera are investigating an attack in which a group of people lynched two brothers for allegedly killing and burying a herdsman. The incident occurred at Nakatooke A village in Kasasa sub-county on Thursday.
The deceased identified as Steven Katukame and Moses Kakamu were beaten with clubs and stoned to death for killing George Lobero, a headsman whom they accused of practising witchcraft. It is said that Lobero mysteriously disappeared on Monday from a grazing field.
However, the concerned residents and village authorities launched a joint search for him until Wednesday when they found a shallow grave in a bush near the grazing field. The grave was dug, and a decomposing body found therein.
At first, the residents had no clue of who had killed the herdsman until Thursday when one of his colleagues spotted Katukame and Kakamu with the deceased’s phone. A subsequent search also led to the recovery of Lobero’s National Identity Card, according to ASP Muhammad Nsubuga, the Masaka Regional Police Spokesperson.
But the two suspects said that they had a longstanding dispute with the herdsman, whom they accused of bewitching them. Â Their attempt to escape from the charged crowd failed when the mob descended on them until they breathed their last.
Nsubuga further condemned the action and said that they are hunting for the residents who participated in the illegal act of ending lives.
He argued that mob justice does not solve crime since it is against the law. Â Nsubuga urged residents to desist from actions that may land them in trouble and appealed to them to report cases to local leaders and police to handle them professionally.Â
The bodies were taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.  Nsubuga says that they have already opened up two files for investigation- one for Lobero’s murder and another for the two brothers Â
