The prevailing endorsements of the incumbent National Resistance Movement chairperson Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa has split party youth supporters with several disagreeing with the idea.

Many have weighed in on the move asserting that they will quit the party if Museveni does not abandon calls to return to the ballot for the seventh term.
“He must groom a successor. We appreciate all his contributions to Uganda’s journey and growth but we now fell it’s time to drop the towel,” one NRM youth said. Asked if he and his group will back Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the 2026 bid, he reiterated that they cannot.
“Uganda is not a monarchy that will be ruled by one family. We have so many capable leaders in NRM. I don’t think it’s right to support Muhoozi. We will not side with him if he runs. We will at least join the opposition,” he added.
Meanwhile NRM Ireland and UK chapter members yesterday also joined their party colleagues in Mitooma and Mukono districts to endorse Museveni’s 2026 presidential bid.
Relatedly, asection of NRM youth leaders in northern Uganda on Wednesday endorsed the candidature of president Yoweri Museveni for 2023 presidential elections. The youth from Lango, West Nile, Acholi and Karamoja led by Odong Robbin Oryono, the NRM youth chairperson of Abim district made the resolution at Hamilton Hotel in Lira City.
The NRM party Secretariat has abstained from taking a side on the ongoing bickering and in fights in the party regarding its 2026 fate.
