A section of opposition National Unity Platform party councillors from Nansana municipal council on Monday staged a series of protests during plenary, as they stiffly contested a decision by the Mayor Ms. Regina Bakitte to fund a 1km road to her residence at a cost of UGX 750m.

The councillors argued that the Mayor acted out of self centeredness to tarmac a road dubbed Kin Ring Road which heads to her residence, yet kilometers of roads in other areas like Busukuma are in a shoddy state.
“We will not accept such selfishness. Our people of Busukuma have over 35kms of poor state roads,” said Ssenyomo Victor, a councillor. “The road is of no value to the people but an individual rather. It’s construction will not be of any lucrative tax returns for the municipal council,” added Ismael Ngagga who heads the financial committee.
The Speaker of the Municipal council Rt. Hon. Kasozi Hamuza helplessly watched on as the councillors attempted to confiscate the ‘speaker’s mess’ before it was rescued by the sergeant at arms.
The speaker spoke about the state of the Nabutiti health centre. “A well wisher donated 4 acres of land to host the health facility but the in charge of the hospital sold off 2 acres. We are worried that he may come back for the remaining piece,” Hamuza said. “The plight of our political prisoners and the pockets of abductions is another point of concern. I call on the RDC to speak to the security agencies in Nansana municipality and Uganda at large to stop witch hunting opposition youths. Our own colleagues in Kawaala, Rubaga division were abducted by drones recently,” he added.

The speaker further decried the shoddy works of local government stating that is a strategy that breeds corruption.
“The great Kampala Metropolitan project that aims at decongesting the city traffic is underway. We engaged with technical teams that are in the project. Guidelines in their contract indicate that in case if shoddy works, the contractor takes liability,” speaker said.
