The People’s Front for Transition (PFT) political pressure group boss has advised National Unity Platform (NUP) leadership to learn from their defeat in Kayunga district chairperson by-election that arrogance is bad in politics.
On Friday morning, Kayunga district election returning officer Kyobutungi Jennifer declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Andrew Muwonge as the winner against NUP’s Harriet Nakwedde with 31830 votes.
NUP’s Nakwedde garnered 31308 votes.
However, Samuel Lubega Mukaku, the vice chairperson PFT disclosed that if it was not for NUP’s arrogance, Nakwedde’s victory would have been saved.
Mukaku warned NUP that they cannot stand alone in this fight against Museveni.
He gave an example of recent by-elections where opposition joined forces to defeat NRM with all their military might because they worked as a team united against a common enemy.
“Because we worked as a team, we managed to defeat Gen. Yoweri Museveni with all his military force that I saw in Kayunga. Many of my members including Bobi Wine were detained, single handedly I mobilized the political armatures who were with me by then and people like Honourable Kassiano Wadri’s victory was delivered,” Mukaku said.
He maintained that other political parties were sidelined by NUP who thought that they are the king makers in Buganda.
“NUP should accept the concept of team work as a united opposition instead of fighting to show superiority,” he said.
He added that NUP sometimes doesn’t do due diligence when choosing suitable candidates.
“I was in Kayunga six months back, that woman Nakwedde was moving with NRM’s Moses Kalangwa and everybody knew it very well, now she is your candidate do you think that voters are stupid, they know a lot that you don’t know,” Mukaku said.
He said that if the opposition doesn’t sit down and work as a team, they are going to lose more elections because president Museveni has started to reclaim Buganda by all means.
BOBI WINE PROTESTS NUP LOSS IN KAYUNGA
Meanwhile, NUP Principal, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine today morning protested NRM’s victory in Kayunga claiming that their victory was stolen.
“In broad day light, Museveni robs the victory of the people, and declares his candidate in Kayunga! Despite the stuffing and all manner of rigging, the signed DR forms give us a 15,000 votes lead. Ugandans will have to decide the next course of action,” Bobi Wine tweeted.
Kayunga District chairperson by-election race attracted six candidates.
According to Jennifer Kyobutungi, out of a total number of 65,332 valid votes cast, NRM’s Muwonge got 31,830 votes, NUP’s Nakwedde got 31,308, Independent candidates Majid Nyanzi got 1,287, Boniface Bandikubi garnered 470, Jamir Kamoga got 279 and DP’s Waddimba trailed with 158 votes.
