Ex-Miss Uganda Oliver Nakakande says her reign as Miss Uganda was tough because it happened during the challenging COVID-19 period.During her two-year reign as Miss Uganda, Oliver Nakakande acknowledges achieving quite much including building a strong sisterhood with other Miss World contestants.Having been held the title during the COVID-19 lockdown, she remembers spending a lot of time with her family and carrying out Instagram sessions about mental health among other important discussions.However, she believes her reign was tough as society demanded a lot from her at a time when the world almost seemed to be at a standstill.Nakakande narrates how she went into depression as she felt her potential was shrinking. Her reign was also heavily criticized by the public.It was tough! I became the “pandemic queen” because my reign was hit by COVID and was put on a standstill. Society, however, still had very high expectations of me.
I went through deep depression during that time. There was so much going on and I felt like my potential was shrinking and I couldn’t do anything to put myself out there yet the world demanded for more of me.
