President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is also the National Resistance Movement (NRM) national chairperson, through the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, has directed all party Members of Parliament to apply for parliamentary committees afresh before they resume this month.
Herbert Kinobere, the acting government Chief Whip, and also the Kibuku county Member of Parliament has confirmed the development clarifying that the changes are only going to affect parliamentary sectoral committees.
He elaborated that legislators are free to apply for their suitable committees but the decision to allocate them will be handled by the party leadership in parliament led by the Prime Minister based on their experience and expertise.
The sectoral committees include; committee on agriculture, committee on defense, committee on legal, committee on education, committee on tourism and trade and committee on gender and others.
Kinobere adds that after two and a half years, members on the standing committees will also be directed to re-apply.
However, sources close to President Museveni revealed that he is very bitter with the way parliament is handling serious issues.
“The man was very bitter with the way legislators handled the coffee deal and how they handled his “Bavubi” (Ministers),” a source disclosed.
The source added that the President was also not happy with how the parliamentary committee on budget made a joke out of the national budget when they decided to allocate government projects to their constituencies and home districts.
Sources in State House divulged that the big man wanted to even cancel the 2022-23 budget but he was advised by his lawyers from the Attorney General’s chambers that it is illegal.
