The jubilant cheering mammoth crowds played all revolutionary songs as they kissed the posters and banners of their endeared president, Bobi Wine. The people had been tipped that Bobi was to use this route on his way from the burial of the fallen NUP elderly Jajja Babirye Omulongo who died on Wednesday morning.
The festivities ensued until police from CPS and old taxi park intervened and started beating up the jubilant NUP supporters.
Police officer confiscates Bobi Wine’s campaign bannerSome arrests were made after the OC of mini price police attempted to clobber one or the youths who had been kissing Bobi’s banner to exhibit his love for the presidential contender. The armed officer overwhelmed the people and vandalised the poster before he confiscated it after securing reinforcement from CPS.
The stampede escalated and police fired live bullets and teargas to disperse crowds. Several people were injured in the running battles with the police. The music amplifier and the poster have been confiscated and are being kept at mini price police post. Traffic also came to a standstill for an extra hour from 17:00hrs. The traders have however vowed to continue showing their love for Bobi Wine. “This is just the beginning. We shall continue showing our love for Bobi Wine,” swore one of the angry NUP supporters. “Bobi Wine is our next president whether Museveni likes it or not,” he adds.
