After facing the wrath of social media critics over a terribly baked anniversary cake for Uganda Airlines, Britam gave it another shot.“We failed badly and agreed to extend the challenge to the experts.”Those were the remarks of Britam Uganda CEO Allan Mafabi as he admitted to the badly done cake they handed over to Uganda Airlines as they celebrated their first anniversary.
A picture of the poorly baked cake went viral on social media and obviously attracted a lot criticism and gave the trolls a field day. The end result was a statement and a bake-off challenge competition.While handing over the winning cake to Uganda Airlines CEO Cornwell Muleya at the Airlines offices last Friday, Mafabi thanked all the 132 bakers who took part in the #BritamBakeOff challenge and hailed the winners, Cake Album, for the good job.“The time and effort you all put in to share your ideas and make these cakes is highly appreciated and we thank you. It is a true example of how, when we come together, we can do amazing things to show our appreciation for our country. PHOTOS | COURTESYThe bake-off challenge was open to the public who voted through social media platforms until it came down to the last five contestants.Moureen Nampijja Mukhaye, the CEO of Cake Album, thanked Britam Uganda, Uganda Airlines and Willis for the opportunity to showcase their talent to Ugandans and since it has become an annual competition, they promised to come back another time and with better ideas.Muleya appreciated the efforts made in correcting the mistake: “On behalf of Uganda Airlines we congratulate our partners for turning around a situation that didn’t depict their brand. The #BritamBakeOff Challenge was very successful, on our part we have been amazed by the various cake designs exhibited by not only the winners but all the 132 bakers”.Muleya said they have seen that Ugandans are proud of their national airline and this motivates them more as they look forward to resuming passenger operations soon for local and international travellers.The finalists of the challenge were; D’Cake Fairy, Seasons of Joy Creations, Mariam Nalwadda, Cilla’s Oven and winners Cake Album UG.dsmukooza@ug.nationmedia.comDon’t want to miss out on any story?
