The commissioner in charge of public health at the ministry of Health, Dr Daniel Kyabayinze called for calm among Ugandans saying there treatment and a vaccine for Monkey pox.
Much as Uganda has not received any case of the disease that has been reported in about 23 African countries, including neighbours DR Congo, the ministry has revealed it’s on high alert.
The disease which spreads through close contact with the infected person, often manifest with acute skin rash, headache, fever, swollen lymph nodes, muscle and body aches and general weakness among others.
Speaking on the KFM hot seat show last night, Dr Kyabayinze said there are two antiretroviral drugs being manufactured to treat the disease and an effective vaccine is available.
He meanwhile says the drug used to immunise against small pox which has similarities with monkey pox can also be used to treat the latter.
