Jinja city has become Africa’s most visited city whenever high profile African and European games and other sporting events are played or hosted in Jinja city. On Sunday, March 9, Man U will battle it out with Arsenal, a game where some football lovers prescribe as high risk game due to their long time standing rivalry amongst the club Managers, players and fans etc.
Ahead of the much anticipated Sunday football clash, Kiira regional police command has conducted risk management at all places of public gatherings especially hotels, guesthouses, bars and restaurants and recommended the following safety and security measures to fight external threats like terrorism and other criminal or misbehavior by fans from both sides like exchanging bitter words, insulting one another, intimidating others, committing crimes like Affray (two or more people fighting in public), insulting each other, invading people’s privacies etc.
The safety and security officers or bouncers must search and screen all attendees at the entry point (proper access control) to avoid smuggling prohibited items like knives, sticks, deadly weapons.
The venue owners must have standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all staff and attendees to follow pertaining the health, safety and security of people in case of an emergency. For instance there’s need to have provision of first aid health team on standby, clear labelled exist routes etc.
All venues owners or managers must not exceed the seating capacity of their respective business premises because it posses a serious security threat.
The ongoing sensitization campaign is intended to make football lovers safe and loved. This calls for proper coordination of venue owners and police or security in the area. We keep reminding people that security is not a luxury but a necessity by implication, security should be given an overriding priority by all members of society.
All business premises that accommodation must register their respective visitors, have excellent customer service to make national and international visitors who have come to watch games have an enjoyable experience in Jinja.
The regular motorized and foot patrols will be in place to managed any bad or ugly incidents. This kind of security is intended to make attendees feel secure while in Jinja.
The MCs in those respective places should keep on reminding attendees to avoid bickering, insulting one another, avoid use or display of provocative language instead football should form a strong foundation for national and international brotherhood.
Yesterday’s largest scoring margin of Arsenal game against PSV (European Champions league) should not worry fans of Man U. And it should not promote disunity amongst the members of the public.
