Uganda on Tuesday (March 29) launched the passport office in Washington DC in the United States.
Speaking shortly after the launch, the director of citizenship and immigration control, Maj. Gen. Apollo Kasiita-Gowa, said their target was to take services closer to the citizens across the the globe.
The office will operate as the passport issuance centre for Ugandans living abroad, according to the recently appointed internal affairs publicist, Simon Mundeyi.
The move is aimed at easing the process for Ugandans in both the UK and US, among others, to access passports.
The event was attended by, among others, Brig. Gen. Johnson Namanya Abaho, the Commissioner for Citizenship and Passport Control.
The Government has since named Ottawa in Canada, Copenhagen(Denmark), Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Pretoria in South Africa, for more passport issuance offices.
