The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has issued guidelines to be followed for attending congregational prayers in line with the 70 worshippers allowed in mosques as per the Presidential directive on the reopening of places of worship.
Addressing the media on Monday at UMSC headquarters, Hajji Ramathan Mugalu said that those who are to attend the congregational prayers must observe the Standard Operating Procedures issued by the Ministry of Health.
“The congregational prayers must be held in observance of the standard operating procedures issued by the Ministry of Health in addition to those that UMSC has set up,” he said.
The SOPs include; worshippers carrying their own prayer mats, performing ablution from home, mandatory wearing of face masks and social distancing while in the mosques.
Mugalu added that evening prayers like Maghreb and Aswir must be observed from home due to curfew. He pledged that UMSC will abide by all the COVID-19 guidelines.
“I express my gratitude towards the President for re-opening the worship places and I assure him that UMSC will abide by all the guidelines set in place in an effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
As such, Mugalu tasked all Imams and individuals to make sure that all the set guidelines are observed.
“The re-opening of the mosques doesn’t mean that COVID-19 has ended so I appeal to all Muslims to keep safe and observe the SOPs,” he said.
