It is reported that at around 9pm, gun wielding assailants emerged from the Forest Reserve and took advantage of the fact that the soldier was alone after splitting from his colleagues.
They mercilessly hacked him and left him unconscious before they fled off with his fully loaded AK 47 rifle.
The UPDF confirmed the incident but could not divulge further details. They say a family from Kikuube is being detained for interrogation regarding the heinous incident. A source in the UPDF says the attack is just domestic and linked to the Forest intruders as opposed to the ongoing wave of attacks eyeing security forces.
Meanwhile parliament has tasked government to come up with a report on the prevailing raids on security forces. Kalungu East MP Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu wants the Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. Tumusiime Kasigazi to help with the investigations after he in a recent media interview authoritatively stated that they ‘know the assailants and will go after them soon.’
