MBUYA- The president of the republic of Uganda and Commander in Chief of the UPDF His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces on its 40th Anniversary and the new phase it has entered.
Speaking at the Tarehe Sita 40th anniversary celebrations at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF General headquarters in Mbuya, the president said, “I am happy with UPDF, it has done their part of defending the country even when it doesnt have all it needs”.
Gen Museveni called on Ugandans to uphold the values that the NRM stands for; Patriotism, Pan Africanism, Democracy and Socio Economic transformation. He went on to stress that for the next 5 years, the emphasis would be on eliminating the culture of working for the stomach, which is subsistence production.

Hon Adolf Mwesige,the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, in his remarks, congratulated His the President and the NRM Government for the overwhelming victory in the just concluded elections. He thanked the President for the guidance to the Forces that has enabled them achieve great heights.
In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen David Muhoozi, equally congratulated the President and the MRM party on the victory in the elections. The CDF pointed out that the Force is on fast track to being a modern force. “As UPDF, we now know that there is a direct link between security and development. As a modern army, UPDF has words like food security, environmental security, knowledge and skills security and collaboration security in their vocabulary”. Gen Muhoozi said.
The Chief Political Commissar presented a report on the army week activities in the Greater Masaka region and some areas of Kampala such as Nansana and Rubaga. These include; light construction works of health centres,classroom blocks,and various health camps that facilitated voluntary safe male circumcision, testing of HIV/AIDs,dental and maternity services.
Earlier, the president and the First Lady were taken on a tour of the soon to be completed UPDF National referral Hospital. He congratulated the Team for the progress of the hospital.
The function was attended by Ministers, General Officers, UPDF Service Chiefs, UPDF senior Officers, members of the Diplomatic Corp, NRM leaders and invited guests.
