The Speaker of Parliament Annet Anita Among has revealed that her life is in danger after deadly gunmen threatened to assassinate her.
Presiding over the Thursday’s plenary, Among narrated that she received an intelligence report explaining how some people are planning to kill her.
“Whoever thinks he/she is going to assassinate Anita; I was put in this chair by God. If anybody wants it, I have my village to go to, but I will serve until I get tired,” Among said.
She recounted that up to now her convoy is being trailed by the suspected assassins who have been monitoring her movements.
She warned her enemies that she is a Speaker of Parliament because of God and if it is His will, she will be the Speaker for years.
A furious Among told her enemies that when her tenure expires as a speaker of parliament, she will go back to her home village and someone else will take the seat.
She instructed the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to work with the Minsters of Internal Affairs to investigate these threats on her life because it is not just hearsay.
She gave Nabbanja two weeks to produce an investigation report on the people who are threatening her and the people in plain clothes who are kidnapping innocent Ugandans especially in the opposition.
Shadow opposition Attorney General Winfred Niwagaba told parliament that plain clothed men moving in numberless Toyota Hiace (drones) vehicles are kidnapping Ugandans and taking them to unknown locations.
He put to parliament’s attention the kidnap of Jakana Nadduli, the son to former minister Abdul Nadduli who was kidnapped and taken to an unknown destination.
He pleaded to the concerned authorities to give the old man an opportunity to see his son because he might die because of his missing son.
Nadduli told theGrapevine that he has nothing to do apart from pleading to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Internal Affairs Minister Rtd. Gen. Kahinda Otafiire to release his son or take him to Courts of law if he has any case to answer.
Nadduli explained that during the 1981 NRA bush war that brought president Museveni to power, he lost 4 children and Jakana is one of the remaining children who are taking care of him.
Jakana was kidnapped from his home in Makindye and taken in a drone to an unknown destination.
It should be remembered that the American government sanctioned top security officers in President Museveni’s government after accusing them of violating people’s human rights, especially those in the opposition to save.
Among the sanctioned officers include; Maj. Gen. Abel Kandiho, Maj. Gen. James Birungi, police officer Frank Mwesigwa and others.
In Response to Among’s statement, PM Nabanja prayed to God that the assassins don’t take the Speaker’s life and assured her and the entire country that the country’s security is under control.
