Kawempe North seat contender under the National Unity Platform party, Muhammad Ssegirinya was on Friday evening charged with inciting violence and remanded to Kirinya prison in Jinja district.

According to credible sources, Ssegirinya was arraigned before a court in Jinja at about 18:30 hours and remanded to Kirinya prison. “At around 6:30p.m amidst all the excitement of Freebobiwine, Mr.Updates Mohammed Ssegirinya was produced in Jinja court. He was charged for inciting the public and later driven off to Kirinya prison in Jinja,” said a source knowledgeable to the development.
MP Ssegirinya was on Thursday picked from his Kawempe North constituency home by gun wielding plain clothed security operatives linked to the Special Forces Command. He was brutally arrested and bundled onto a waiting numberless van while people watched on in fear. Ssegirinya and several other NUP politicians like Lord Mayor hopeful, Nabillah Naggayi Ssempala, Allan Ssewanyana, Ssenono Denis (NUP flag raiser), Zainab Fatuma of Moroto and several others totalling to about 98 remain in custody of police.
