According to the local Mbarara radio broadcaster Crooze FM, the NRM supporters intend to disrupt Kyagulanyi’s planned manifesto launch which they described as a mockery since this vicinity is perceived to be a stronghold of president Museveni. “We cannot allow Bobi Wine to launch his manifesto from our stronghold,” swore some of the attendants of the meeting. “Let him launch it from elsewhere. We will work with the police to block him from surfacing in our area,” another high regarded cadre was quoted retorting.
According to credible sources, the sabotage is a joint effort between the Mbarara RPC and the RDC who intend to appease president Museveni in a bid to position themselves as hardworking cadres so they can be elevated to juicier offices.
In some of their plans, the group wants to rely on mobilized youths who have been assigned roles each. Each group member will don in yellow shirts and stage along the Mbarara city centre where they will block the road with the support from the area police commanders. The plan is to humiliate the NUP entourage and make everything appear as if the party is unwelcome in Mbarara yet it is only a handful of hired goons that will be projecting this disguised image.
We’ve contacted the NUP officials for a comment and one who responded told us that they will peacefully proceed with their plans. “They say NUP has no support in the west, why are they in panic then?,” he asked rhetorically. “We will proceed with our arrangements and we’ve already notified the EC and police,” he adds.
