Former senior presidential press secretary Joseph Tamale Mirundi has lashed out at the Uganda Joint Christian Council over its proposal to have the elections suspended and the incumbent rewarded 3 years.

Speaking this morning on the Pearl FM airwaves, Mirundi says he is totally shocked with how the clerics are ‘shamelessly’ crossing the line to meddle in issues where their say has no weight. “I would expect them to be praying for the post election period where violence is anticipated. I expect them to preach peace and tolerance to the public but not guiding on the electoral process,” Mirundi says. “How do you talk about a boxing game when you are not in the ring? You are fearing for the boxers yet they are not throwing the towel,” Mirundi made reiterated. “I have not seen any of the candidates asking for a postponement. Why are the religious leaders this desperate to have polls postponed? If they don’t have what to say about the election let them stay aside,” he advised.
Mirundi however added that from his perspective, he has a feeling that the prime Minister Charles Peter Mayiga could be having a hand in the UJCC statement. “He has no say in this election. Mengo for the very first time has no influence in the elections. I have a feeling it’s Mayiga misleading these clerics,” Mirundi said.
On Nakiwala and other government officials downplaying Bobi Wine using his past, Mirundi says all this carries no weight. “They fattened Bobi Wine with an intent of stealing money from Museveni,” Mirundi exclaimed. “Now Bobi Wine is out of their league. He is not of their level. Nakiwala Kiyingi is an idiot to think she can use Bobi’s past to donwplay him. Ugandans have already embraced him. This should be a lesson to the Mafias,” he said.
