TikToker Pressure 24/7 charged with hate speech against Muhoozi – Sqoop

TikToker Ibrahim Musana, popularly known online as Pressure 24/7, has been charged with hate speech and unlawful access to personal data belonging to Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

Musana appeared on Wednesday before the Kampala City Hall Magistrates Court, where prosecutors accused him of posting a video on TikTok on March 5 that allegedly ridiculed Gen. Muhoozi and questioned his fitness for office.

According to the prosecution, the content shared on the platform included the general’s name and photograph without consent, which authorities say violates provisions of the Computer Misuse Act and the Data Protection and Privacy Act.

Court documents state that Musana used electronic platforms to disseminate communication considered hateful and offensive toward the Chief of Defence Forces. Presiding magistrate Edgar Karakire remanded Musana to Luzira Prison until March 26 as investigations into the matter continue.

Musana denied both charges.

Security agencies say the case forms part of broader efforts to curb online abuse, hate speech, and the unauthorized use of personal data on social media platforms.

The TikToker, who has built a significant following through commentary on political and social issues, is known for posting controversial content that often sparks debate online.

His arrest has also reignited discussion about the limits of freedom of expression in Uganda’s digital space, with some members of the public supporting stronger regulation of online speech while others argue the case could set a precedent that threatens criticism of public officials.

This is not the first time Musana has faced legal trouble. In 2024, a hate speech case against him involving remarks about political leaders, including Yoweri Museveni, was dismissed by court.
