Acidic Vokoz and Mudra D Viral looked like they were headed for a concert showdown when both artists scheduled major shows on the same night in Lugogo.
But according to Acidic, there was no bad blood behind the clash.
The two stars went head-to-head on August 30, 2024, with Acidic taking over Lugogo Cricket Oval for his Live in “Ndi Musoga” concert while Mudra performed at Zoe Grounds, just a short distance away.
The same-night shows fueled plenty of talk among fans, with many viewing the concerts as a battle for Kampala’s audience.
Acidic, however, says he and Mudra never let the scheduling clash get between them.
Speaking on NRG Radio, he confirmed that the two are still friends.
Yes, we are.
Even the fact that they had concerts on the same day did not change that relationship, according to Acidic.
It was inevitable, but we are friends.
He said they also understood each other’s position and eventually met after the concerts.
Yes, and we meet. He even called me. He had a function at his place, and I went there. We are friends. He is a musician, and I am.
So why did Acidic choose the same date?
He says Lugogo Cricket Oval had always been his dream venue, so when the venue later offered him August 30 after his preferred date fell through, he took the opportunity.
It was inevitable and unavoidable. I wanted Lugogo Cricket Oval, but the initial date I wanted was not available. You know that place always has bookings. They called us after a while and told us, “You wanted Lugogo Cricket Oval, and it is free on 30th August. Are you okay with the date?” And we had nothing to do because it was my dream. Lugogo Cricket Oval was my dream.
Acidic also weighed in on whether artists should consider their fellow musicians when making decisions such as choosing concert dates.
He believes they should consider others, but not at the expense of their own opportunities.
We do consider, but at a certain point, you come first. But we do consider. To be honest, we consider.
So while fans saw a concert battle in Lugogo, Acidic says he and Mudra saw something very different: two artists chasing their own opportunities while keeping their friendship intact.
