Kenzo: Bebe Cool couldn’t stay under my leadership – Sqoop

Singer Eddy Kenzo has offered another explanation for why fellow musician Bebe Cool left the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), attributing the departure to disagreements over leadership.

Kenzo claims Bebe Cool prefers to be in charge and is unlikely to remain in organisations where he does not hold the top position.

“Wherever Bebe Cool doesn’t gain, he won’t participate. I am telling you. He won’t be anywhere where he is not a leader,” Kenzo said.

The two musicians were involved in the formation of the UNMF, with Kenzo taking the overall leadership of the federation while Bebe Cool was appointed head of finance.

Kenzo now says the difference in their positions contributed to Bebe Cool’s decision to leave.

“At the federation, he was the head of finance yet I was the overall head so he moved out of the federation,” he added.

Bebe Cool has previously disputed other aspects of the circumstances surrounding his departure and has given a different account of what led him to quit the federation.

In a 2025 interview, he said the organisation had moved away from the objectives that had brought its members together. He also raised concerns about the management of funds, saying that although he was responsible for the finance docket, he was not involved when government money was received by the federation.

The contrasting accounts put the two musicians at odds over what triggered Bebe Cool’s exit.

While Kenzo points to the federation’s leadership structure and Bebe Cool’s position within it, Bebe Cool’s earlier explanation focused on what he considered a shift in the organisation’s direction and concerns surrounding financial management.

Their differing accounts come amid a broader public history of disagreements between the two musicians, who have at various points found themselves on opposing sides of debates within Uganda’s music industry.
