KISORO – UPC President Mr. Jimmy Akena has entered the race for the Kisoro by-election, igniting a wave of enthusiasm among voters.
Campaigning for UPC’s flag bearer, Ingabire Mable, President Akena has been vocal about the failures of the ruling NRM and the promising vision of the UPC for Uganda’s future.
Addressing a large gathering at Kibugu Trading Centre, President Akena didn’t hold back in criticizing the NRM’s neglect of the people of Kisoro.
“Your poor living conditions are a testament that NRM has neglected you,” he declared. “The legacy of UPC for the people’s wellbeing is self-explanatory.” His powerful words resonated with the crowd, who cheered in agreement, hopeful for a change that the UPC promises to bring.
The energy was palpable at Mataba – Kidandali Trading Central, where Akena assured voters of UPC’s commitment to their welfare. “We have the right vision for the people of Uganda,” he stated confidently.
He passionately campaigned for Ingabire, highlighting her dedication and the positive change she represents.
The crowd’s response was overwhelmingly positive, as chants of support for Mable and UPC echoed through the air.

In Ruhengeri Trading Centre, Muramba Sub-County, Akena introduced Ingabire as a “woman of substance” to the enthusiastic crowd.
“Ingabire Mable is the leader who will transform your lives and uplift our community,” he proclaimed, receiving resounding applause from the attendees.
The electoral campaigns officially kicked off earlier this week, with six candidates entering the race: Mable Ingabire (UPC), Grace Akifeza Ngabirano (Independent), Rose Kabagyeni (NRM), Salim Sultana (NUP), Juliet Musanase (FDC), and Aisha Cyimpaye (PPP).
A major twist has emerged, with the NRM leadership divided. Some NRM members are reportedly backing the independent candidate, Ms Akifeza, after she rejected the results of the party primaries and chose to run independently. Other NRM supporters have opted for a UPC candidate
The uncertainty within the NRM camp has fueled the optimism of opposition parties and independent candidates who believe they can secure the seat.
Philemon Mateke, Kisoro NRM chairman, emphasized that anyone with the capacity to lead can win the by-election, regardless of their political affiliation.
Faizo Muzeyi, head of media and communications for UPC, expressed that Kisoro has long been a stronghold for the party, and the by-election offers them a chance to reclaim it.
He believes the increased participation of multiple parties in this election reflects a growing opposition to the NRM, especially in light of the recent primaries, which they view as evidence of disarray within the ruling party.
