Water harvesting and treatment technology
A new water harvesting and treatment technology has been launched at Mengo Senior School in Uganda.
The system, which collects and treats rainwater, is expected to provide clean drinking water for the school’s 6,300 students.
It is part of a project by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to promote sustainable development.
The initiative aims to use intellectual property to drive innovation and improve living standards.
“This project shows how innovation can solve real-life problems,” said Gilbert Agaba, representing the Registrar General.
“The technology will not only provide clean water but also reduce the school’s reliance on external water sources,” he added.
The school’s administration has welcomed the initiative, saying it will help reduce costs and improve the health and well-being of students.
The project is part of Uganda’s efforts to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 which focuses on clean water and sanitation.
