Museveni meets top American businessman Ashworth Barnes, discuss setting up automotive institute in Uganda – PML Daily

KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni met with an American investor Ashworth Barnes who is the Chief Executive Officer of 713 motoring company.
President Museveni during a meeting held at his country home last week lured Mr. Barnes to consider investing his money and skills in Uganda saying the country has a conducive investment climate.
Mr. Barnes part of the delegation that came into the country alongside Senegalese-American business investor, Aliaune Thiam Akon.
Mr. Barnes, on his part, expressed his company’s interests in establishing an automative technical institue in Uganda.
“I met the President and we spoke about the idea of setting up an automotive technical school. He (President) advised that we should have it diversified and incorporate other technical disciplines,” Mr. Barnes told reporters in an interview.
He noted that President Museveni expressed concern that many Ugandan students are burdened to look for technical skills abroad— noting that, ‘if brought here, the situation would be different”.
“The President noted that on top of automotive, students should be able to learn other related skills in audio and video, wielding, painting or other different types of technical careers in relationship to automotive industry,” he noted.
Mr. Barnes told reporters that he will tap into his vast connections to team up with other colleagues in the US who can ably represent other technical sectors.
“We have a lot of concepts that haven’t made it here yet and these would boost the economy. I will create another delegation to come and help me bridge the gap in technical industry that I am not expert in but I will concentrate on automotive side,” Ashworth noted.
He added that in line with the above, he will be investing in real estate through setting up state of the art affordable cost housing.
