KAMPALA – Ajuna Treasured, a 22-year-old from Ntungamo District, is contesting for the position of Youth MP for Central Uganda. Born to Mr. Mujuni Herbert and Miss Nahabwe Debrah, Ajuna has lived in Kansanga Kiggundu Zone since 2010. He studied at Kajjansi Progressive Secondary School and Old Kampala SS, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Business Statistics at MUBS.
Uganda faces a daunting challenge in youth unemployment, with a staggering 70% of the population below 25 years old, according to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) 2020 report. The International Labour Organization (ILO) 2022 report reveals that 40% of youths are unemployed, while a Makerere University 2020 study shows that 60% of graduates are unable to find employment within four years of graduation. Furthermore, UBOS reports that 75% of youths are engaged in informal sector jobs, often characterized by low pay and limited benefits.
Ajuna’s manifesto addresses these pressing issues head-on. He plans to tackle unemployment through vocational skills training, aiming to produce job makers rather than job seekers. This approach will equip youths with practical skills, enabling them to start their own businesses and create employment opportunities for others.
In addition to unemployment, Ajuna is committed to improving mental health services. He aims to construct more mental health hospitals and lead campaigns to prevent mental health issues, including campaigns against drug abuse and early marriages.
Ajuna also advocates for affordable education and specialized study programs to cater to individual interests. He believes that every young Ugandan deserves access to quality education, regardless of their financial background.
Youth empowerment is another key focus area for Ajuna. He aims to empower youths through various initiatives, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed. This includes creating platforms for youths to engage with policymakers, promoting youth-led initiatives, and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation.
Ajuna’s vision is to transform the lives of Central Uganda’s youth, providing them with opportunities for growth, development, and meaningful contribution to their communities. With his leadership, determination, and commitment to youth empowerment, Ajuna Treasured is poised to make a positive impact on Uganda’s future.
