RAKAI — Education Secretary of Masaka Diocese Rev. Fr. Micheal Kamulegeya has inaugurated a new Board of Governors to St. Bernard’s SS Mannya in Rakai District.
Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Kiwanuka the Mannya Parish Priest also presided over the inauguration of the new board which is expected to steer the school for the next three years.
The new Board Members were nominated by different stakeholders of the school including Old Students Association, foundation body, parents, teachers and government before they were approved by Education Minister as per the Education Act 2008.
Rev. Fr. James Tamale is the new Chairman of the Board of Governors taking over from Rev. Fr. Joseph Ssembatya who presided over a turbulent spell but managed to register massive success.
Fr. Tamale’s appointment and that of the other Board Members was announced on December 20, 2020 following the approval by the Minister of State for High Education Dr. J. C. Muyingo.
“In the exercise of the powers conferred by Section 28 of the Education (Pre-Primary, Primary and Post Primary) act 2008, I here appoint the following person to be the Board of Governors of St. Bernards SS Mannya with effective 4th December 2020,” the Education Minister J. C. Muyingo wrote.
Education minister in his letter commended the outgoing board members for both their individual and collective contribution to the development of the school during their tenure service.
The inauguration ceremony, which also doubled as a farewell to the out-going members of the Board in recognition of services rendered in the last three years was held at St. Bernard’s SS Mannya in Rakai on Thursday, April 29.
The other new members of the Board are Ms. Rose Nalubowa who was elected Vice Chair, Ms. Godfrey Kisekka, Mr. Pius Lubega and Ms. Teddy Namwanje all representatives of the foundation body.
Parents will be represented by Ms. Suzan Bukirwa Nanyanzi and Mr. Felix Kabuye while old students will be represented by Mr. Javira Ssebwami.
Others members include Ms. Nabuuma Mugagga and Mr. Christopher Ssettuba who will represent teachers while Ms. Nassolo Aidah and Mr. Paul Mulindwa will represent local government.
The Board will serve a term of three years in office.
The Board Chairman Rev. Fr. Tamale pledged to spare no effort in carrying out the work of the school especially from where the old board has left.
“We shall take time to learn more about the school culture but also abide with the Education Act, policies also right reason to execute our duties”, he said in his inaugural speech.
Rakai District DEO Mr. Ivan Kimbowa who represented the Ministry of Education asked the new board to support teachers in implementing the new curriculum and in professional development of the staff.
Cotton On Foundation Uganda Country Manager Ms. Clare Najjemba reiterated commitment to working with the new board.
