Six people lost their lives while scores of others sustained critical injuries after a road accident occurred along the Bomet-Narok Highway.
The harrowing accident involved a secondary school bus belonging to Mesabisabi Mixed High school that collided head-on with a Nissan matatu on the evening of Saturday, December 14.
According to reports, the bus collided with the matatu at the Olonin Bridge as the bus driver attempted a dangerous maneuver on vehicles ahead of it.
In his attempt to overtake, the bus driver ended up colliding with the matatu, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision killed three occupants of the Nissan matatu on the spot while three others, two women and a girl, succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the Ololulung’a Sub-County hospital.
Police have since reported that the driver of the bus fled the scene after the accident and a manhunt was launched immediately.
The two vehicles were towed to Narok South Sub-County Police headquarters awaiting inspection.
The incident happened just hours after another accident in the Tegero area along the same route. One woman lost her life while three others escaped with minor injuries.Â
Quite worryingly, the Narok-Bomet highway has become a hotbed for accidents in recent months, as the latest accident occurred just months after nine people lost their lives along the same road.
On June 29, a matatu reportedly burst its tyre in the Ratili area, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle, which rolled several times.
From the accident, six men, two women, and one underage female lost their lives, while others sustained minor and major injuries.
A recent report on road accidents in the country highlighted a worrying trend, with most fatal incidents resulting from human error.
Between January 1 and August 27, 2024, records from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA indicate road accidents have claimed at least 3,056. According to the report, a majority of the fatalities are pedestrians.Â
