Driver Flees As Bus Full of Passengers Overturns on Busy Highway

A bus driver and a turn boy fled the scene of a road accident on Tuesday, January 12, at Timboroa on the Eldoret- Nakuru highway. Police reports indicate that the driver of the bus was overspeeding and lost control causing the bus to roll twice and land in a ditch.The morning accident saw over 40 passengers sustain numerous injuries.  A bus full of passengers overturned on the Eldoret- Nakuru highway on Tuesday, January 12.File The report was confirmed by Koibatek Police Commander Maxwel Agoro who noted that 26 people had sustained severe injuries while 17 of them only had minor injuries.”Police officers and good samaritans rushed them to Mercy Mission Hospital in Eldama Ravine,” he stated.Speaking to a local media house, the matron at the hospital Emma Koech noted that the majority of the passengers had spinal, head, and face injuries.She noted that all operations within the facility stopped in order to cater to the accident victims.”Many patients have been coming here owing to the countrywide medic strike that has paralysed operations at Eldama Ravine District Referral hospital,” she stated.Owing to the small personnel handling a large number of patients, 15 passengers had to be referred to other hospitals in Eldoret and Nakuru Counties.A recent report by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) showed a spike in the number of fatalities caused by road accidents between January 1, 2020, and December 13, 2020. The death toll stood at 3,663 compared to 3,348 which was recorded in a similar period in 2019.The authority cautioned motorists to adhere to traffic rules in order to curb the rising number of accident cases.
