World África Boxing Association (WABA) has appointed John Nene as its Director of Public Relations and Communication.
The ex-BBC journalist is Kenya’s top boxing commentator and also worked for KTN as the chief sports presenter and reporter.
“On behalf of the President and Chair of the Board of WABA, I am glad to announce the appointment of Mr John Nene.
“His term begins with the date of this letter for a period of two years,” Irene Joseph Magebo, the Director of Human Resources and Management at WABA said in a newsletter seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, February 16.

Facebook Nene will coordinate closely with the WABA President and Chair of the Board Col. Onesmo Alfred McBride Ngowi to formulate policies and strategies for Public Relations and Communication to promote and market WABA brand and its titles around the world.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Nene said that he was ready for the task and thanked everyone who had supported him in his career.
“I am elated and proud to be appointed to this position,” Nene said. The position, however, is non-payable.
The legendary multi-media expert also served as a digital and radio journalist at Standard Media Group.
Nene is an accomplished Kenyan broadcaster and an award-winning sports journalist. He left BBC, his last post in 2020 where he worked as a digital journalist.
He has worked as a print journalist in Weekly Review, Nairobi Times, Kenya Times, and Nation which is Kenya’s top daily newspaper.
The legendary presenter has covered major international games among them Olympic Games thrice, World Athletics Championships four times, World Cup, Commonwealth Games, and Africa Boxing Championships.
Boxing is his speciality having covered various tournaments extensively for over 30 years.
The journalist authored the book on Kenya’s football legend, the late Joe Kadenge. Kadenge, the AFC and Harambee Stars passed away on July 7, 2019.
He is also the founder of Pamoja FM, a community radio in Kibra, Nairobi which went on air in 2007.
