There seems to be no end in sight in the worrying trend of fires across secondary schools after another dormitory in Ngombeni girls went up in flames on Tuesday, September 10.
Images and videos of the incident showed a huge inferno, which engulfed the facility leading to losses estimated to be in millions
Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro confirmed the fire incident but assured the public that there were no casualties. All the 703 students were safe.
“This evening, a fire incident occurred at Ngombeni Girls Secondary School. I wish to reassure all parents and guardians that all 703 students have been safely located, with no casualties or injuries reported.,” the governor stated.

Emergency services moved quickly to quell the fire before it spread to a nearby science laboratory.
According to Governor Mung’aro, the fire occurred while the girls were in class for the evening prep classes. The cause of the inferno is yet to be established.
Incidentally, on the same evening, there was a fire incident at Isiolo Boys High School, just three days after a fire incident at the neighbouring Isiolo girls.
