A devastated woman took to pleading with health workers to attend to a critically ill patient she had brought for treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) on Monday, September 28.The woman, Francisca Kinuthia, had been to a number of hospitals but was not getting any help.She feared that the patient she had brought in for treatment would die if not urgently attended to. We hop from one hospital to another in the hope that our loved ones will be treated, but we do not get any help,” she lamented.The family had to look for other alternatives to help their sick.All the patients currently seeking treatment at the hospital are being turned away following a strike that saw more than 4,000 workers down their tools.The incident came a day after a patient died at the Kenyatta National Hospital parking lot, after he went untreated for hours with the health workers’ on strike.Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary-General Seth Panyako accused the Salary and Remuneration Commission (SRC) of failing to approve the Ksh301M passed by the National Assembly and okayed by the treasury in 2012. Panyako stated that despite the salaries being okayed, the workers were yet to receive a dime.“What we want is to see SRC give that letter, advising Kenyatta National Hospital to effect payment to all affected employees and thereafter the strike will be called off,” Panyako stated.The Kenya National Union of Nurses vowed that the workers would not be meeting any government agency to resolve the standoff.
