Lira University has suspended seven students for one academic year following examination malpractices.This, according to an official notice released by the Office of the Academic Registrar, detailing penalties imposed on students who contravened Section 5.2(a)(i) of the university’s Examination Rules and Regulations. The suspended students will not return to classes until Semester II of the 2025/2026 academic year.“We hereby strongly warn all the students to take caution and revise the Examination Rules and Regulations well, not to fall victim of the same,” the registrar stated in the document dated March 7, 2025.Among those suspended are Akello Sharon from the Department of Science and Vocational Studies, Akite Florence Omara from the Department of Distance Learning, and Atala Caroline from Distance Learning. Others include Obete Maxwell from the Department of Commerce and Business, Okello Dick from Distance Learning, Okello Pius and Odongo Emmanuel, both from the Department of Commerce and Business.Each student faced identical penalties, including:One-year academic suspension
Cancellation of results for the course in which the malpractice occurred
Mandatory reporting to the Dean of Students’ Office for counseling before resuming classes
Submission of a written apology before returning to studies
A strong final warning against future examination misconductThe suspended students will have to retake their respective courses upon returning to the university. This disciplinary action comes as universities across Uganda tighten measures against academic dishonesty.
