In a bold move destined to transform Uganda’s educational landscape, Makerere University has unveiled an electrifying e-learning initiative designed to boost enrollment and ignite a wave of digital innovation! Funded by a whopping USD 12.2 million grant from the Government of the Republic of Korea and orchestrated in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), this project is set to catapult Makerere University into the digital age.At an inauguration event held in the grand Auditorium Hall of Makerere’s Main Building, top government officials and academic leaders gathered to witness the birth of what many are calling the “e-Learning Revolution.” With Uganda’s Vision 2040 in sight, the initiative aims to empower students to access education from anywhere, fueling research, innovation, and creativity across the board.Three Power-Packed Components
The ambitious project is breaking down into three dynamic components:Master Plan for Digital Domination: A comprehensive study of Uganda’s current Open, Distance, and e-Learning (ODeL) environment will pave the way for a groundbreaking Master Plan. By 2030, Makerere University expects most of its academic programs to integrate state-of-the-art e-learning methodologies, positioning it as Africa’s premier hub for digital education!
Training Tomorrow’s Trailblazers: Forty top-tier faculty members and staff are set to travel to Korea for specialized training in the design and development of cutting-edge ODeL content. These digital pioneers will return to lead local training sessions, ensuring that Makerere’s academic community is fully equipped for the tech-driven future.
The MAK-ODeL Center: Spanning an impressive 4,000 square meters, this futuristic center will be the beating heart of Makerere’s digital transformation. With modern multimedia production studios, robust connectivity, and dedicated learning spaces, the MAK-ODeL Center is designed to elevate the e-learning experience to unprecedented heights.High-Profile Support and Global Ambitions
