The man who recorded the alleged racism incident at the Alchemist Bar in Nairobi’s Westlands area has apologised for misleading the public. The man has since been identified as one Emmanuel Murgor.
According to a statement he signed and made public by the Alchemist Bar on Friday, June 3, the two parties met and the complainant admitted that he mislead the public.
The statement signed by Murgor’s advocate indicated that he was remorseful for the repercussion that followed his viral video including the shutting down of the outlet whose license was revoked by Nairobi Governor, Anne Kananu, and led to the arrest of 10 employees of the bar.

The Alchemist “The clip that I shared made an impression that there was racial bias practiced at The Alchemist. That was never the case. After reviewing the full footage of the evening and even from my experience inside, I can attest that The Alchemist embraces diversity.
“I also reiterate that from how the club’s management has handled the incident, they are open to diversity and have in fact zero tolerance towards racism. I deeply apologize for any narrative the short clip may have caused. That was never my intention,” Murgor stated.
He retrieved his words that painted Alchemist Bar as a racist entertainment joint, noting that it embraces inclusivity and appreciates diversity.
He further made it clear that the Alchemist Bar agreed not to press charges against him despite the heavy loss it suffered.
“This wasn’t my intention and for that, I apologize. The Alchemist is on the verge of reopening following a successful investigation into the incident. I urge The Alchemist to have their staff affected by the incident retain their jobs. I also urge the public to stop their attacks and threats against the Alchemist on social media,” Murgor concluded.
The bar was forced to shut down after Governor Kananu suspended its operating license. The club on the other hand noted that it was collaborating with the county to establish what happened.
It further promised to review employment structures and policies to address any cases of racism.
