The National Police Service (NPS) headed by Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai has taken action against a Nairobi police officer captured on Citizen TV camera forcefully getting into a private car through the window.In a statement shared on Wednesday, March 30, the NPS noted that it was instituting disciplinary action against the officer in the incident that occurred along Kenyatta Avenue, within the capital city.NPS further indicated that they had positively identified the officer.”The National Police Service has taken note of an incident which has been trending on social media, whereby a police officer on traffic duties was captured forcing himself into a private vehicle. We reiterate that it is imperative for individual police officers to discharge their mandate professionally, diligently and with high levels of discipline,” read the NPS statement.The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also echoed the action taken by the NPS in the matter.The officer, whose identity is yet to be made public, forcefully gained entry into a private car through the co-driver’s window and ejected the driver.It remains unclear what prompted the cop to force his way through the window, in full glare of the camera and in broad daylight.”What initially appeared to be an argument between the driver and the traffic cop, degenerated into an ugly scene as the cop took one step back, removed his cap and shoved his left foot through the co-driver’s window gaining entry to the vehicle, with little regard to the passenger occupying the passenger seat.”A brief altercation then followed before the beleaguered driver was ejected and the cop commandeered the vehicle with the remaining occupant totally bemused,” read a statement from the DCI.Other cops were seen going on with their duties unbothered with the drama involving their colleague who was in uniform.The clip, which was filmed along Kenyatta Avenue, went viral on Wednesday attracting ire from netizens who condemned the officer.Below is the video:
