NTV senior reporter Kennedy Murithi opened up on his strained relationship with Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
During an interview on Iko Nini YouTube channel, the political reporter divulged that differences with the CS began during the beginning of the split between President William Ruto and his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta.
He stated that he had interviewed the CS during an event where Murkomen retracted statements that he had made on a different occasion.
The statements whose content was not made public did not please Ruto who asked his ally to withdraw the statement that had been covered by the media.

NMG The reporter indicated that his editor at NTV ran with the story on Murkomen retracting his statement, a move that did not sit well with the former majority leader.
“During the interview, I asked him a question and he retracted what had been reported in the media insisting that those were not my words. When the story went on air, the editor wrote that ‘Murkomen ala matamshi yake’
“Now Murkomen stated that my work was to twist his words. Since that time, we have had a love, hate relationship,” he stated.
He expressed that they were not on talking terms explaining that the CS is likely to decline to pick up his phone call.
“I cannot really pinpoint something that I did. It got to a point when he would tell my bosses to send other journalists to cover him when he was the majority leader, the reporter indicated.
Murithi added that another close ally of Murkomen, Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot developed a negative attitude towards him over the incident.
The reporter also thanked Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale for coming to his defence in the strained relationship.
“This issue became contagious with the leader of the majority, Aaron Cheruiyot. He would say that I lack professionalism. The person who actually came to my defence was Khalwale. It was a big support for me.
“Journalism is very interesting. Today we become friends because we do a positive story, tomorrow you do a story that is different,” he stated.
He added that many efforts had been made to reconcile them and had proved futile.
Murithi is set to join Tharaka Nithi County as a political adviser.
