Kyambogo University students have been denied entry into their campus due to the ongoing presidential elections for the 2021 general elections. The nominations are happening at the Kyambogo University Cricket pitch from today Monday 2 November 2020 and Tuesday 3 November 2020. Now, it is highly likely that students will not access lecture rooms for this two days due to the ongoing exercise conducted by the Electoral Commission.
Despite the Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor last week assuring students that “Kyambogo University activities will “continue as usual” final year students who are racing against time to prepare for end of semester examinations have been locked out of their campus.
“Kyambogo University will proudly host the Presidential Nomination exercise from 2nd to 3rd November 2020.
Thank you Electoral Commission for choosing KYU for this National event. Kyambogo university activities will continue as usual. May God bless our country,” Prof Katunguka said last week.
Students say the whole campus is full of Military Police. “The whole campus is full of these military guys. Remember we were using two gates (the west end gate and the small gate)…they have all been closed,” one of the disgruntled students told Campus Bee. “All lecturers have cancelled lectures so we are just in our rooms,” she added.
We shall keep you posted.
