Ruto’s Next Plan After Being Asked to Quit

Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have reiterated that the DP would not quit government and the Jubilee Party after confidants of President Uhuru Kenyatta dared him to resign.They have resorted to pushing the Head of State to dissolve the government and allow fresh elections to be conducted. This was after Chief Justice David Maraga advised Kenyatta to send MPs home for failing to enact the Two-Thirds Gender Rule. Fresh calls for Ruto’s resignation heightened after the DP skipped the National Covid-19 Conference in Nairobi on Monday, September 28.The DP was accused of sabotaging the President with pro-government legislators further alleging that he was planning to refuse to concede defeat in 2022.  President Uhuru Kenyatta addresses the nation during the National Covid-19 Conference in Nairobi on Monday, September 28, 2020. His deputy William Ruto skipped the event.PSCU Ruto and his allies had alleged that the Huduma Namba registration process would be used to rig the upcoming Presidential elections. “The allegations being peddled by the Ruto team are signs of people who do not have a winning strategy,” National Assembly Security Committee Chairman Paul Koinange stated. He was accompanied by members Rosa Buyu, Fatuma Gedi, Geoffrey Muturi. Soy MP and Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General Caleb Kositany dismissed Kenyatta’s allies allegations and insisted that he supports Maraga’s advisory. Kositany lamented that they were being punished and humiliated in a party they sacrificed a lot for. “I support the CJ because we have been mistreated. If Parliament is dissolved, I will not defend my seat through Jubilee Party. I am not alone on this. I cannot guarantee that Jubilee will remain a majority party if we go for a re-election,” Kositany stated. Nandi Senator Smason Cherargey added that most Ruto allies were not afraid of going back to the ballot, arguing that they were assured of a win. Sources within Jubilee Party added that the DP and his allies were considering contesting on former CS Mwangi Kiunjuri’s The Service Party, Aden Duale’s Reforms and Development and the New Democrats Party linked to ex-MP David Sudi. On Thursday night, August 27, Ruto hinted at quitting the Jubilee Party after accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta allies of hijacking the party.  Deputy President William Ruto addresses a gathering in Bungoma on Sunday, September 27, 2020Twitter
