TSC Speaks as Cases of Students Stabbing Teachers Spike

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday, January 13, issued a statement after two separate incidences of students attacking teachers were reported.The incidents happened in Kisii and Nyamira involving students from Kisii School and Mokwerero Secondary School, who attacked their teachers, injuring them.The commission condemned the attacks on teachers and asked Kenyans to play a role in mentoring students across the country. Reports indicated that the student was summoned to the school’s staff room in the morning after he reported late for morning preps.The student was later arraigned in court and charged with attempted murder, but was released on bond.The second case involved a form two student at Mokwerero Secondary school, Nyamira County, who was arrested after he was found brandishing a machete within the school compound, and threatening to attack the school’s deputy principal.In September 2020, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) asked learning institutions to help learners who might have undergone trauma during the Covid-19 pandemic to smoothly integrate into the school community.KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion also launched a gender-based violence sensitisation programme for students who were victims during the prolonged stay at home.  A signpost showing Teachers Service Commission mandated with hiring teachers in Kenya.Twitter
