The annual interforces games will finally return from a two-year break following the Covid-19 pandemic that caused it’s temporary suspension.
Hosted by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) at Queen Elizabeth National Park in Kasese, the 16th edition will take be underway from 19th to 29th September 2022.
Uganda Police, Uganda Prisons and the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) have also confirmed participation to compete in eight disciplines such as athletics, road run, football, netball, volleyball, darts, Taekwondo and shooting.
Speaking during a press briefing at Uganda Wildlife Authority headquarters in Kampala on Wednesday, AIGP Charles Birungi, the Director Welfare, Production and Sports reaffirmed commitments to support Uganda Police in the games.
“Uganda Police is ready to participate in all the eight disciplines identified for this year and we shall be fully in it and we pledge good working relations with our sister forces for continuity of these games,” stated AIGP Birungi.
He added, “These games enhance cooperation beyond fieldwork of operations and its one element that unites us where more than 1000 personnel from different forces come together and share ideas with one another.”
These games will run under the theme; Inter-forces collaboration – A key to effective wildlife protection with a major aim of promoting unity, teamwork, discipline and discipline.
“We have chosen Queen Elizabeth Conservation area because we want to have some of our supporters and partners have justification for it and to show case what we have as Uganda Wildlife Authority,” said Sam Mwandha, the Executive Director Uganda Wildlife Authority.
He also revealed that the grand opening will be convened on 22nd September 2022 by the Minister of Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities at Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute, Katwe.
The games will include, Football, Athletics,Taekwondo, Netball, Handball, Shooting Range, darts and Volleyball. Athletics will get the games underway on September 19th followed by road race three days later in Mweya.
Darts, Football, Volleyball, Netball, Shooting and Taekwondo shall be held between 22nd to 29th September at the park.
The last edition took place in 2019.
