Bishop Comboni College Kambuga community is in sombre mood following the death of the school headteacher, Bro. John Bosco Kato. He died at the age of 56.
Kato, a resident of Nyakatunguru cell, Northern ward, Kambuga town council in Kanungu district died on Tuesday afternoon after reportedly developing complications while driving from the college to his home in Ibanda district.
According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, Kato was traveling in a motor vehicle Reg No. UBA 312R Toyota Prado together with his nephew and other students as they headed to Ibanda for a party of entering the headteacher’s new house.
However, on the way, upon reaching Enengo, Rukungiri district, Kato is said to have started feeling bad, including vomiting, and failed to continue driving.
With the help of a boda boda rider who offered to drive the vehicle, Kato was rushed to Nyakibale Hospital but died on the way at Rwerere Town Council.
By press time, police was yet to carry out postmortem on his body.
Meanwhile, Spero Byokunda, a close friend to Kato has confirmed having had a phone call with the deceased in the morning of the fateful day.
Byokunda, says Kato had confirmed to him that he was to stay in Ibanda overnight and proceed to Kisubi, Kampala on Friday for an appointment.
In Kisubi, Kato was to arrange for Lamine football tournament among schools administered by Brothers of Christian Instruction Kisubi.
Meanwhile, Byokunda has noted that after the postmortem, the body will be taken to the school, Bishop Comboni College Kambuga where a requiem mass will be held.
He further said that the final funeral will be held in Kisubi on Friday with an Eucharistic celebration or requiem high mass.
