Drama actor Kato Lubwama is not amused by the way the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) is run.
He argued that artistes should be led by someone with experience, and not through the ballot.
In an interview on August 10, the former Rubaga South legislator suggested that the association picks Afrigo Band boss Moses Matovu as its president.
“Art is led by experience, it’s not about having a hit song. Moses Matovu has enough knowledge to lead musicians because he has been in the industry for about 50 years. He has led Afrigo Band and nothing bad has been heard about it,” Lubwama said.
He advised that instead of holding elections, a group of experienced artistes could sit down and decide on who to lead the industry.
This comes after singer Cindy Sanyu told journalists on August 10, 2022, that she had assumed office after the UMA electoral commission refused to organise elections following a number of failed attempts.
Cindy, who was the outgoing president, subsequently shared a photo of herself and other former leaders Phina Mugerwa, Justin Bas, and Renah Nalumansi, and revealed that she had stepped back into office as president.
