Bishop Mugisha praying for the refugees
A delegation from the Anglican Diocese of Muhabura led by the Bishop Rt. Rev. Cranmer Mugisha on Thursday donated 3000Kgs of Maize flour to Congolese Asylum seekers at Nyakabande transit camp in Kisoro district.
While preaching to the mostly women and children refugees, Bishop Cranmer Mugisha called on the East African Community (EAC) leaders to find a peaceful approach to solving the differences that have arisen leaving many innocent people displaced and many others dead.
He said the asylum seekers at Nyakabande are all children of God who have suffered difficult times due to Political instability in their home country.
Philippe Kuessan, the UNHCR Deputy Head commended the Church for their timely support.
Kuessan said of food relief items are always welcome to help support the biggest population made up of women and children.
The total population at the transit camp is currently at 10,137.
At least 407 refugees were yesterday relocated from Nyakabande transit camp.
207 individuals were taken to Kyaka Resettlement camp, 121 to Nakivale Settlement camp and another 79 to Rwamwanja settlement camp.
Hajji Shaffiq Sekandi the Kisoro RDC says that  no fighting was reported in DRC but the M23 did not allow civilians to go back to their homes, and that most  people are still stranded along the borderline in Bunagana Uganda as the M23 allowed a few  individuals under escort to enter and pick a few items from their homes then back to Uganda.
He says that he monitored the situation at the border by visiting the places where asylum seekers stay on the streets, playgrounds, under trees, as National Water and Sewerage Corporation added 4 more tap stands to address the challenge of water in the area.
