KISORO– Dozens of Congolese Nationals have crossed to Uganda via Bunagana border in fear of losing lives following heavy fighting in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to Elly Maate the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, on Monday morning between 4 and 6am, M23 a rebel out fit fighting in the Eastern part of Cong Sabinyo MTS Ranges in particular was engaged by FARDC forces specifically in areas of Runyonyi, Kyanzo, Bugusa, Kyengerero near Bunagana border (4km) all in the province of North Kivu.
The intensity in fighting according to Maate forced Congolese citizens to flee their country for their lives.
The Kigezi Regional Police PRO adds that all security agencies however have taken charge of the situation including UPDF, intelligence services, UNHCR among others.
Maate told this reporter that the situation is under control and UNHCR has started ferrying Congolese to Nyakabande settlement camp.
