Rugby Cranes head coach Fred Mudoola has released the final squad of 28 set to represent Uganda at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled to take place in France this year.
The tournament will happen between 1st to 10th July in Marseille and Aix-en-Provence with 8 African teams participating.
11 players have been dropped from the team that has been preparing for the tournament which doubles as 2023 World Cup qualifiers.
The dropped players include Heathens trio of Reynolds Kato, Alex Mubiru and Aziz Khan. Also, KOBs’ Saul Kivumbi, Jude Juuko, Arthur Mpande and Emmanuel Ecodu have been dropped among others.
Besides Uganda, other participating teams include Algeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Cost, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Senegal and Zimbabwe.
Uganda will face Kenya Simbas in the quarterfinals of the Qualifiers. The other quarterfinal matches include Namibia versus Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe against Ivory Coast and Senegal versus Algeria.
The winner of the qualification tournament will earn a direct ticket to the 2023 World Cup that will also be hosted next year in France.
