As part of the commemoration of the World Diabetes Day in Kabale district, Global Livingston Institute in partnership with Rugarama Hospital, our lady of Good Health Hospital Rushoroza, and Bridge of Life, extended free health education, free blood sugar, and pressure management services to over thousands of people in the district.
The campaign started on Monday 14th November 2022 as free services were offered at Rugarama and Rushoroza Hospital and climaxed at Bwama Health Center 3 on Bwama Island on Lake Bunyonyi.
Hundreds of residents staying in areas near the Lake responded to the call for the belated commemoration of the World Diabetes day.
The locals praised the outreach for bringing such services near to them.
Local also got some tips on fighting NCDs
Andrew Nangoli, the Global Livingston Institute Public Health Programs coordinator says this time they shifted from having a one-day outreach, to a seven days in order to attend to a bigger population.
Nangoli says that they have also established a follow-up monitoring program for the identified patient’s for12 months.
Presiding over the World Diabetes day belated commemoration, the Kabale District Health Officer Dr. Gilbert Mateka appealed to the public to always consider doing regular screening to know how their health is.
The National Commemoration function was held at the Land Forces Headquarters Playground at Bombo Barracks, and this year’s theme was “Championing awareness about diabetes, prevent, screen, know, and treat diabetes.
