KABALE– Hailstorm has devastated crop gardens, houses, bridges and roads in Kahungye, Butanda and Rubaya sub counties in Kabale District.
The most affected areas are Nyombe, Habuhinga, Bishaki village in Kahungye Sub County, Rusisiro, Kushara village and Katoma villages in Butanda.
According to the Nyombe parish councilor Dickson Kamuhanda, the heavy rainfall that lasted for an hour last evening also destroyed 10 houses in Kahungye Sub County and crop gardens like beans, sorghum and Irish potatoes. The affected road is Rwenkorongo-Kahungye-Nyombe-Kagoma that connects Rubaya Sub County and Bufundi Sub County in Rubanda district.
Saime Twesigomwe an affected resident told our reporter that his two houses and other properties worth Ugx 6 million were never spared during the hailstorm.

The former Kabale district speaker Rev Can Jack Katarishangwa asked the government to come to their rescue before the situation gets out of hand.

The Kabale district chairperson Nelson Nshangabasheija said that they intend to engage the office of the Prime Minister for any support. He also asked the residents to embrace better methods of farming to mitigate the effects of climate change.
