BIO– Aggrey Siryoyi Awori was a Ugandan economist and politician. He was born on 23rd February 1939 to Canon Jeremiah Musungu Awori and Mrs. Mariamu Odongo Awori in Budimo village in Busia district.
He attended Nabumali High school in Mbale district, King’s college Budo from 1959-1961.
He later joined Harvard University from 1961 to 1965 where he attained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and then joined Syracuse University in USA and attained Masters of Arts in Economics.
He acted as the legislator of Samia-Bugwe North county in Busia district from 2001-2006.
He also became the Information, Communication and Technology Minister from 16th February 2009 to 27th May 2011.
Aggrey Siryoyi Awori came third in the 2001 Presidential general elections after polling 1.41% of the vote.
He was an outspoken opposition figure from the Uganda People’s Congress UPC but later abandoned UPC and joined National Resistance Movement in 2007.
Awori is been married to Thelma Awori and the two are blessed with 6 children including Arthur Moody Awori, the Kenya’s 9th Vice president.
