The Ministry of Internal Affairs has explained why Winnie Nwagi was chased away from the ministry premises.
The video in which the singer, dressed in a short bodysuit and oversized jean jacket, is being carted off went viral this week.
In an interview, the ministry spokesperson, Simon Peter Mundeyi, said Nwagi was indecently dressed.
“Because we host a lot of respected people who come with their children and wives, her dress code was not appropriate and we could not allow her to access the premises,” he said.
Mundeyi reasoned that there wouldn’t have been chaos if the artiste did not retaliate.
He said the officers tried to send Nwagi away peacefully, but her conduct necessitated the use of force.
“When our security officers reached out to us, we said we cannot let her in and we politely told her to go back and change, but she became arrogant and started insulting the officers, uttering heavy vulgar words that pissed them off, so they forced her to leave,” Mundeyi explained.
He cautioned artistes to mind their dressing while at the ministry to seek their services.
“We know musicians have their own dress codes while working, but I kindly request them to always learn that different places have different codes of ethics and dress codes. If you know you are coming to the ministry, dress up appropriately because if you do not, we may not allow you in,” Mundeyi warned.
