The Ministry of Education and Sports in partnership with the Belgian Government through the Belgian Development Agency-Enabel, on Thursday launched infrastructural works worth 2.393 million Euros, equivalent to Ugx 9.095b, at National Teachers’ College (NTC)-Kabale and NTC Mubende.
Speaking at the function held at NTC Kabale in Kabale Municipality, the Belgian Ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Rudi Veestraeten, said the project intends to improve NTCs’ teaching and learning facilities, including classrooms, laboratories and accommodation for both students and teachers, among others, and subsequently improve the training of secondary school teachers through the Teacher Training Education project.
At NTC-Kabale, facilities being worked on under the project include, water and power supply systems, a new gate with gate house, external learning area, landscaping works, fencing, water harvesting and drainage systems, as well as renovation of ICT block, two staff office blocks, and laboratories, among others.
The construction and rehabilitation of the facilities is supposed to be completed in 12 months.
Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, The Minister of State for Primary Education, who was represented by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, commended the Belgian government for supporting teacher training programs in Uganda, and asked the beneficiaries of the projects to use them profitably.
